National University (NU) has established itself as a modern powerhouse for the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament. And the traditional heavyweight gets in the way as the lady bulldog stands on the edge of the second straight crown.
Beyond NU’s determination to not ruin a grand pursuit for La Salle, there is the fact that Cornerstone’s Bella Belem and Alyssa Solomon (the outstanding who lined up schools within the programme that creates the nation’s top stars) can play the final game in blue and gold.
For them, winning the season 87 title cements the Ladybug Dogs’ status as Titan in the sport. It is to lay the foundation for future success.
“Because I’m very happy [we have a chance] To leave something to younger players. And Belem, the team’s skipper named the most valuable player of the season, will be able to escape with the third crown in four years, with NU ending Lal’s hopes for a 5pm match at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Solomon reflected that sentiment, reflecting the commitment they made behind when they were young people who had eyes.
“For me, I’m proud of it because it’s been history since Season 84. Before I entered the college level, we already told my Batchmates we were going to bring the championship to NU. I think that’s how it all started.”
“I’m very happy because most of our high school teammates continued to do college NU,” Belem added. “We all know each other, so that’s a big factor in how we’re moving right now.”
Lady’s victory over spikers will become a storybook for lady bulldogs who are trying to assert the mastery of modern rivalry in volleyball.
Peerless RDJ
“I keep telling players that the close-out game is the most difficult,” said NU coach Sherwin Meness, who is about to embellish his already impressive resume with his first university title.
His intestinal vibe is not unfounded. History shows that La Salle can pull rugs from under enemies at this stage, dropping the opener of the series just to raid and steal the crown.
Cha Cruz-Starred Lady Spikers did it against Far Eastern University during Season 71 in March 2009, and against the tournament Ateneo in Season 74 three years later.
Both cases were under the careful eyes of Peares Lamild Jesus, the architect behind LaSalle’s 12 Championship.
De Jesus said he hopes his team will raise that setting play. She said she could pull more out of the stars Angel Canino and Shebana Rapat as Lady Spiker left to retrieve the hardware she had last two years ago.
“La Salle won’t fall without a fight,” Meneseth said in another chat with Inquirer. “Their spirit of war is another thing.” inq
