AI-powered flood prevention app Artel won the startup stage at Kingston BETA’s 17th anniversary tech event last Wednesday.

Led by founder Tracy-Ann Hyman, ARTEL uses artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions to save lives and protect property from both man-made and natural disasters. The goal is to significantly improve clients’ decision-making capabilities by providing timely and accurate micro-level information before disasters occur.

The startup, which works in the field of climate change adaptation and resilience in Latin America and the Caribbean, beat five other startups to win the $300,000 prize and global connections. Silicon Caribbean A Caribbean and global network of experts and investors.

To all the entrepreneurs who presented at Kingston BETA!

And the venue was packed.

A panel of four e-commerce and digital policy experts shared data, insights and on-the-ground experiences for 45 minutes, generating high audience interest.

As always, it was great to see the regulars, some of whom have been in the community since our first year, some community members who pitched 10 years ago and now run multi-million dollar digital businesses, some non-angel investors, and also a bunch of eager new attendees.

There was time for networking until 11pm. A truly amazing start to a great year for Kingston BETA.

Moderated by Stacey Hines, digital transformation strategist and CEO of Epic Transformation, we will have an all-female panel across investing, fintech and digital business. We’re excited for the rest of 2024!
