As part of Mumbai’s Dharavi redevelopment project, Adani Group plans to build a transportation network that houses railways, roads and airport transport facilities in a single location.
An important feature is the airport train and check-in and transport facilities for passengers returning and traveling between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports, according to Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt, a project vehicle in which Adani Group has 80% stake and the state government holds rest.
Both airports are run by the Adani Group and have flight operations from Navi Mumbai, scheduled to begin later this year. The “multimodal transit hub” also has inter-city and intra-city rails, metro services and city buses, said the Navbharat Mega developer.
Last October, India’s Maharashtra approved the acquisition of 256 acres of salted bread land northeast of Mumbai to support the Adani Group’s project to redevelop Dharabi, one of Asia’s largest slums.
Dharavi’s master plan was approved by the state government earlier this week.
In addition to transportation infrastructure and enhanced roads, there are plans to develop a riverside promenade along the Miti River north of Dharavi, according to a statement on Saturday.
