Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico [Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC)] Present “Actos de Cimarronaje” [‘Acts of Marronage]— a newly commissioned performance piece by choreographer/dancer Auilda Sterling Duprey. The event concludes the performance program of the exhibition “Puerto Rican Negrex,” curated by María Elena Ortiz and Marina Reyes Franco, which closes on September 1, 2024. “Actos de cimarronaje” will be performed on the MAC’s indoor patio on July 24 at 7 p.m. [Tickets: $10.]
explanation: “Actos de cimarronaje” is an exploration of the body through dance and performance, in which multiple interlocutors contribute from their respective fields of activity to the elaboration of a particular landscape context. Sterling Dupree proposes navigating some of the museum’s shared spaces, accompanied by audiovisual materials such as film scenes, fragments of musical compositions and texts extracted from bibliographic sources that critically address topics that cross aspects relevant to the artist’s research from a decolonial perspective. The work comments on issues related to art and its structures, architectural spaces and how to navigate and use them.
