Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer features ranked play. And Activision decided to explain how it works when it comes to ranked play matchmaking, which is different from unranked matchmaking or standard matchmaking.
Ranked Play arrives as part of Season 01 and is accessible to all players who have achieved a total of 50 match wins in multiplayer.
Ranked play matchmaking
Activision’s Call of Duty team, on the other hand, previously shared A detailed and technical white paper on how matchmaking works in Call of Duty multiplayer. Ranked Play matchmaking employs several unique mechanics that take into account a player’s rank and skill rating to account for the best possible matchmaking.
Connection.
Ranked play considers three main search parameters during matchmaking: It’s the player’s connection quality, search time, and skill relative to the rest of the available player population. When forming ranked play matches, Activision intentionally allows longer search times to improve match quality.
Competitive Integrity Limits

These features consist of all the ways developers stay competitive in ranked play. Restrictions are in place to ensure a fair and competitive experience for all players. In-game features like loadout limits are designed to level the playing field, and matchmaking limits can help balance your lobby before the game.
Connections – As mentioned earlier, connections are an important element in the matchmaking process.
Ranks, Skills, and Performance – Players can progress through eight ranks. Ranked matchmaking attempts to group players with the same or similar ranks. The range of eligible ranks will expand if there are not enough players within the current coverage to have quality matches.
Each player’s individual skill rating plays an important role in Ranked Play matchmaking. Teams start searching for ranked play matches with a small difference in target skill ratings between players and increase the acceptable range over time. Matching players of similar skill level in Ranked Play gives everyone a chance to influence the match.
Time to Match – This element is intended to increase the amount of time players spend playing the game and reduce the amount of time they spend waiting for a match to start. Ranked play lobbies prioritize competitive integrity and may require longer search times for matches in order to build lobbies with properly matched players.
New to Black Ops 6

Full parties of four can now play together in Ranked Play, regardless of their individual ranks. However, skill matchmaking is based on the highest ranked player in the party. Party skill limits still apply to parties of two or three players.

Update: Loss Forgiven: Each player’s first loss of the day, regardless of rank, will be forgiven and no SR will be deducted. This doesn’t stack. Additionally, the three-game loss forgiveness granted when promoted to a new rank or at the start of a season now only counts down after a loss.
Other new features

Masu. After both teams choose their vetoes, the remaining options are selected. If both teams veto the same option, the map/mode of the match will be randomly selected from the two non-veto options.
