Jennifer Lopez files for divorce, A-ROD criticizes it?

Now that Ben Affleck 2.0 is over, people are looking back at Jennifer Lopez’s dating history. Her most recent ex-boyfriend before Ben Affleck was Alex Rodriguez.
And A-ROD seems to be gossiping about her marriage breakdown. GROSS!
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are (officially) divorced
On Tuesday, August 20, news broke that Jennifer Lopez had filed for divorce from Ben Affleck.
The news comes after a tumultuous few months of what we can only describe as a “breakup spree,” with both Ben and Jen publicly showing they were living completely separate lives.
Her filing put the date of the separation at April of this year, which lines up very well with the pair not showing up to the Met Gala together, vacationing separately, and completely ignoring each other’s birthdays while on opposite coasts.
Following the news that the divorce was (finally) finalized, the entire internet was abuzz with sarcasm.
In 2024, Jennifer Lopez released two disappointing movies on streaming services. In recent years, many have taken to social media to recall Lopez’s past allegations of not tipping or giving excessively low tips to food service and hospitality workers.
While random commenters shared their thoughts (and a little glee in other people’s misfortune) about the demise of Bennifer 2.0, another of Lopez’s recent exes appeared to criticize her.
Is A-ROD criticizing Jennifer Lopez?
On Tuesday, August 20th, Alex Rodriguez announced his divorce filing, hours after his ex-fiancee’s divorce filing made headlines around the world. Instagram A story sharing a quote. He was quoting himself (he does that sometimes).
“If you choose one path or the other, you decide the direction,” the quote reads.
This would normally be a pretty innocuous quote, but in this case, we can’t help but wonder if it’s a reference to Jennifer Lopez’s very public breakup.
In fact, even if he was talking about Jennifer Lopez divorcing Ben Affleck (which is likely), it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad word or even insulting.
Backbiting often takes the form of sarcastic praise.
But if anything, A-ROD sounded like he was simply saying that Jennifer Lopez might decide to end the relationship, not necessarily blaming her.
This is certainly a complicated time for her.

But A-ROD and his backstabbing (or comforting words) aside, you can bet she’s heard from everyone around her who’s told her that Bennifer 2.0 is a bad idea.
