A new species of digger scorpion, Odontobutthus Vachon, 1950 (Family) from southern Iran
Odontobutthus Vachon, 1950 (nine species described) is a genus of digger scorpions in the family Odontobuthus, distinguished by large tooth-like projections on the ventromedial carina of the second and third posterior segments. Masu. Morphological and molecular investigation of coastal specimens from Hormozgan province, Iran, discovered a new species named Odontobuthus persicus sp. November It is described here. Morphologically it is closely related to O.chabaharensis. The new species Odontobuthus has two large conical denticles on the ventromedial ridges of the second and third posterior segments, whereas O. chabaharensis has three to four medium to large denticles. There are protrusions. Based on phylogenetic analysis using partial COI sequences, the new species is positioned as a sister taxon to O. brevidigitalus. The genetic differentiation of Odontobuthus from other species (mean = 0.107) confirmed the validity of this species.
