Systematic annotation of novel peptides in scorpion venom requires revision. Commonly used two-letter acronyms that combine the first letters of the genus and species are not discriminatory and cause confusion. A new universal 5-character short code is proposed here. This code allows you to clearly identify any species. The code includes the first capital letter of the genus, followed by the four letters of the species. This code identifies most species. For several other species that belong to the same genus and have the same initial letter in their species name, uniqueness is ensured by changing the fifth letter. For scorpions that belong to different genera, have the same initials, and have the same exact species name, you can use the two letters (uppercase) for the genus and the three letters (lowercase) for the species to generate a five-letter identifier. Following this suggestion, peptides belonging to all scorpion species can be properly annotated.
