One of the reasons these biscuits are so easy to make is that they only require four ingredients – truly, biscuit making has never been easier.

What do 7UP biscuits taste like?
When I first heard about a biscuit recipe using 7UP I wondered if the biscuits would taste lemony. Interestingly, they don’t. 7UP biscuits are a slightly sweet and slightly tart biscuit similar to buttermilk biscuits.
Many people compare it to a KFC or Popeyes biscuit. So what does 7UP bring to this recipe? Mainly the soda and acidity contribute to the overall lightness of the biscuit. ☁️
Recipe Ingredients
- Baking Mix – I like to use all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt, but a super easy biscuit recipe is also made using 7UP and sour cream.
- shortening Butter adds richness and gives the biscuits a beautiful golden brown exterior when spread on top. Lard and tallow are excellent shortenings (fat that is solid at room temperature). I only used butter, but use whatever you have on hand.
- 7UP – This recipe calls for 1 cup of 7UP, but you don’t need a whole 2 liter bottle unless you’re making a large batch. Don’t worry if you don’t use the brand name, any common commercial brand will do. It will give the biscuits a nice plumpness and a slightly sweet flavor.
- sour cream It adds a little sourness and gives the biscuits a soft texture.

Make the dough
- preheat Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

- mix Mix the lemon-lime soda and sour cream. Make a well in the biscuit dough and pour in the sour cream mixture. Mix until the dough comes together and becomes sticky. Be careful not to overmix the dough, as this will make the biscuits tough. (Photos 2-3)
Bake biscuits
- Make biscuits – Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface. Pat the dough down to about 1 inch thickness. Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter or floured glass. Press down straight down, without twisting, to ensure the biscuits rise properly. (Photo 4)
- butter – Pour most of the melted butter into a 9×13 inch baking dish and brush to coat evenly into baking dish. Place biscuits in baking dish and brush with remaining melted butter. (Photo 5)
- bake Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown – oven temperatures vary so be careful not to overcook. (Photo 6)
- serve – Remove the biscuits from the oven and leave them to rest until they have absorbed all the butter. Enjoy.
Recipe Variations

- Make it cheesyIf you want to make a super tasty biscuit, add some freshly grated cheddar cheese to these biscuits.
- Add honeyAdding about ¼ cup of honey to the batter makes it just a little sweeter.
Tips and Tricks
- Be gentle with the dough. Overworking the biscuit dough can result in tough biscuits. Mix just until the dough comes together, but do not overwork it.
- When cutting the biscuit dough with a biscuit cutter or glass, press straight down without twisting, this will allow the biscuits to rise properly.
- If your oven heats unevenly, rotate the baking dish halfway through the baking time to ensure even browning.
Advance preparation and storage methods
7UP Biscuits are suitable for freezing and can be prepared up to 3 months ahead. They can be frozen either cooked or raw. To flash freeze, place on a baking sheet and allow to set. Then transfer to a freezer Ziploc bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing.
If you freeze raw biscuits, you can bake them straight from the freezer without thawing them, just remember that they will take a little longer to bake.
Leftover biscuits can be stored in an airtight bag in the fridge for 2-3 days, or to serve warm, reheat in the oven, toaster or microwave.
