SMU The team is off to a strong start in June, signing its third four-star prospect in three days.
The latest addition to the Mustangs’ class is four-star wide receiver Jalen Cooper from Cibolo (Texas) Steele.
This comes just days after SMU successfully landed Rivals250 quarterback Ty Hawkins and Rivals250 offensive tackle Dhramod Odoms.
Over the past few weeks, Cooper has taken several official visits, including to his top five Kansas, Kansas, Baylor, Texas A&Mand of course SMU.
Kansas was mentioned at various points in his college process, but the Mustangs emerged as the top choice behind the scenes throughout his visit, Cooper says about why he chose SMU.
“[SMU] “Obviously it’s a good program. They won 11 games last year and are in a new conference and will be competing in bigger and better competition. It’s a good school, one of the best in the country.”
The relationships he built in Dallas and the opportunities his alumni network provided ultimately gave SMU the edge to land his recruitment.
“The coaches always kept in touch with me, called me every day to ask how I was doing, and they always cared. And the life after baseball that they offer is like no other. There are so many opportunities after college. I think that’s what attracted me.”
SMU got one of the most productive wide receivers in the state of Texas, who had 1,578 yards receiving and 23 touchdowns on 63 receptions in 2023. His yardage was 10th-best in the state.
