Baylor Strong winds will continue through the first week of June, with even stronger winds expected on Sunday night.
The Bears’ newest addition is four-star defensive end Ka’Mauryn Morgan from South Oak Cliff (Texas).
Morgan is the second four-star prospect to join the Bears this week, joining four-star wide receiver Jacory Watson.
He chose Baylor University over two other finalists. Texas A&M and SMUThe 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end took official visits to each program.
Morgan joins Baylor University, which is focusing on strengthening its defensive lineman corps. In addition to him, the group has five defensive linemen, three ends and two interior prospects.
Before transferring to South Oak Cliff, Morgan had a strong junior season at Red Oak, recording 61 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 34 quarterback hurries. He also recorded 5.5 sacks, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
Already weighing in at 230 pounds and sure to gain weight in the college weight room, Morgan looks more like a power rusher than a speed rusher. He’s also proven to be a valuable presence in run defense. He’s not the most explosive off the line, but he’s tough to take out of that position. In fact, he often moves offensive linemen before they can move. So far, he’s shown a variety of pass rush moves beyond the typical bull rush.
One of Morgan’s specialties is tracking the ball carrier and reacting in a timely manner to make a play or at least disrupt someone else’s chances. He holds down the edge and directs the ball carrier into traffic. He is a sure tackler and once he gets hold of the ball carrier, he never lets go.
He may not be the first choice pass rusher on third down, but he certainly provides value on first and second downs to play the run and disrupt the quarterback when he has free reign.
