Pinch hitter Kebrian Hayes caused four 10 innings with a Go-Ahead RBI single, and the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates retrieved a doubleheader split on Thursday with an 8-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Hayes knocked autorunner Tommy Femme from 2 base. The Tigers tried a safe call, which was supported. Detroit manager AJ Hinch was kicked out for insisting the decision.
Joey Burt drove on another run with a baseloaded single-off branded harter (2-2). Isiah Kiner-Falefa knocked twice more on two singles.
Pittsburgh’s Jared Triolo hit a two-run homer, while Nick Gonzalez provided a solo shot. David Bednar (2-5) won the victory in a scoreless inning of 1 2/3. Pirates Ace Paul Skens scored nine hits in six innings while walking five times.
Colt Keith ripped a two-run homer, while Graver Torres hit a two-run double for Detroit.
Tigers reliever Keeder Montero gave up one run and three hits in five innings.
Riley Green drove on four runs, while Taric Scuball gathered for his eighth victory as the Tigers scored a 9-2 victory in their first game.
The Tigers used Tyler Holton as the opening game for the Night Cap, and the Pirates went deeper twice in two before he was removed. Gonzalez mashed a cutter into the wall of the field on the left. After Adam Frazier singled, the trio blew a fastball over the center field fence to get a 3-0 lead.
Third, one at a time, McCutchen blasted the Montero slider into the left field wall, giving Pittsburgh the advantage of four runs.
Skens was troubled for the fifth time by issuing one walk to Jake Rogers and Trey Sweeney. Keith bumped into the fielder’s choice before Torres slaps a double to the left center and took home Rogers and Keith.
Isaac Mattson replaced Suken, and the Tigers tied it seventh. Sweeney had a one-out double and Keith hit a 0-2 fastball on the opposite field for his first homer since May 8th, tied it at 4am.
The game was delayed by more than an hour due to rain, with one at the ninth bottom.
