Is it possible that “The Last Reckoning” will be the last “Mission: Impossible” movie? The action-espionage series began in 1996, and star Tom Cruise is now 62 years old, so maybe it’s time to stop running around town and clinging to the sides of planes mid-air. On the other hand, perhaps that subtitle is just a snappier alternative to its redundant working title, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2.” The previous film in the series, Dead Reckoning Part 1, had disappointing box office results in 2023, so Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie wanted audiences to see this film as a standalone blockbuster rather than a second film. Half of the ongoing story that you might want us to think about. Either way, Ethan Hunt and his gang (played by Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Hayley Atwell) travel the world, dodging explosions and assassins, in order to stop a dastardly AI known as the Entity. It’s going to be a race. (Note)

Wicked: For Good
Wicked has grossed over $500 million at the box office, so there’s no doubt there’s an audience ready to see this movie. Previously known as “Wicked Part 2,” the new title is taken from a duet sung by Elphaba and Glinda later in the musical, following a time jump between the two parts. Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, is now the Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda, played by Ariana Grande, is now Glinda the Good Witch. Other familiar faces include Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, the center of the love triangle between Glinda and Elphaba, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Governor of Munchkinland, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Characters will also reappear. Stephen Schwartz, who composed the Broadway show, has added new songs to the second part, which will include the origin stories of the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. But billions of impatient fans probably already knew that. “For Good” comes out a year after Part 1, and Bowen Yang, who plays Glinda’s friend Puffani, said“Everyone’s like, ‘This is the longest break ever.'” (CJ)

little player’s ballad
After Conclave, one of the best films of 2024, and the Oscar-winning film All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), Edward Berger has decided which films will be on his list of the year’s most promising films. He also became a prominent director. He assembled a great cast for this drama, starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton. Farrell plays a high-income gambler who flees to Macau and hides out of debt. He is also a con artist who pretends to be a nobleman called Lord Doyle. The story, based on the 2014 novel by Lawrence Osborne, takes place in a flashy, faux-luxury casino in Macau, where Doyle meets the woman who may be able to save him. Berger said. deadline“If Conclave is a very well-constructed, very architectural chess game, this one has chaos and opera in it,” he says. He said he was interested in “the outward pomp and circumstance of Colin Farrell in Macau, China.” The film was shot in Macau and Hong Kong, adding to the authenticity. (CJ)
