So far, Arkk has grown by 6%, a more solid lead than the S&P 500’s 2% gain and the Nasdaq’s 1% gain. This is a welcome shift since 2024 when Arkk returned 12%. This isn’t bad, but it’s not near the 24% surge on the S&P 500.

Looking at the bigger picture, Arkk’s long-term numbers tell a more complicated story. Over the past three years, the annual return rate has been -5.89%, and the five-year return has been a barely a hit at 1.03%. In comparison, the S&P 500 supplied 13.14% and 14.27% over the same period.
As Yahoo Finance reports, this is why some investors are still on alert.
Michael Barrybest known for predicting the 2008 financial crisis, but is one of Arkk’s biggest critics. He argued that its holdings burn cash at unsustainable rates, and at one point he even shorted the fund. Burry believes Arkk is too dependent on speculative growth stocks with volatile profitability.

Morningstar analyst Robbie Green Gold is also skeptical of ARK Invest. GreenGold downgraded the ARK Innovation ETF to a negative rating, citing concerns about risk management and portfolio concentration.
He believes the company lacks structured risk management and relies too much on aggressive forecasting. Strategist A summary of his concernspointing out that Wood’s strategy is bold, but it lacks benchmark strategies as well.
But Wood has not retreated. She believes that regulatory rollbacks and technological advancements will drive long-term innovation, and she believes she is sticking to guns.
