For 20 years, Maggie Gallagher has been a leading voice writing about the importance of durable monogamous marriage to society. Initially, it included pointing out issues of divorce, feminism, and single parenthood. Later, as same-sex marriage became a major issue, Gallagher became the public face of the movement against it. A few years after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 50 states, Archbishop Salvatore Cordione of San Francisco asked him to become executive director of the Benedict XVI Institute for Sacred Music and Sacred Worship, which he founded in 2013. Ms. Gallagher switched gears. She says we must build something beautiful to avoid despair.
In this interview, Maggie says:
- How becoming a single mother in college led her to focus her career on saving her marriage
- Time spent in the pro-marriage movement, including as co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage.
- Why have pro-marriage advocates been less effective than the pro-life movement?
- Why certain criticisms of the political involvement of the pro-life movement are unwarranted
- American classical liberalism cannot think about social institutions.
- Meet Archbishop Cordileone and join the BXVI Institute
- Sponsorship of the arts, especially liturgical arts, by the BXVI Institute
- Archbishop’s Prayer and Fasting Campaign for the Conversion of Nancy Pelosi
