Wrexham AFC, a Welsh football club co-owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is reportedly considering selling stakes in the team that will set the franchise’s valuation of $475 million.
According to a Bloomberg report on Wednesday, the club is looking for investors to join the Hollywood star who bought Wrexham for $2.5 million in late 2020.
Since then, the team has been the subject of the popular FX documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham,” and has been promoted for the third consecutive year through the English football system.
They will play in the English Football League Championship next season. This is a step down the Premier League, and the latter is undoubtedly the world’s top soccer league.
The predicted value represents a jump of almost 19,000% to the team’s value within five years.
For comparison, championship team Sheffield United won $135.5 million in acquisition late last year, while Premier League side Everton sold for an estimated $500 million in December.
In 2024, Wrexham reportedly generated $35.6 million in revenue. This is more than twice the previous year.
Last October, the Allyn family, former owners of the medical institution company, purchased nearly 15% of Wrexham, which was then rated at $136 million.
