MacTruck will fire between 250 and 350 workers at its Lehigh Valley factory over the next three months, the company said, citing economic uncertainty and tariffs.
“Large truck orders continue to be adversely affected by market uncertainty regarding freight charges and demand, potential regulatory changes, and tariff impacts,” Mack spokesman Kimberly Purilo said in a statement.
The layoff could affect approximately 10% of the company’s 3,050 employees at the Lehigh Valley Operations facility in Mcungie, with workers gathering Class 8 MACK trucks for North America and export markets. “We regret that we have to take this action, but we need to adjust production with reduced demand for our vehicles,” Pupillo said.
I thought the key to tariffs, at least according to the Trump administration, was to bring manufacturing jobs back to America.
That was until Trump’s Secretary of Commerce admitted that most of the industry they wanted to take home was done in factories run by robots.
