At tonight’s CyberCab event, a swarm of Tesla’s humanoid Optimus robots walked out with the unveiling of Tesla’s new Robovan vehicle. The robot has also appeared in videos performing everyday human tasks, such as carrying items from a balcony or watering plants.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk quipped, “Optimus will walk among you.” “You walk up to them and they serve you a drink.”
Musk explained that they can basically “do everything,” citing examples such as walking the dog, babysitting the kids, mowing the lawn, and serving drinks. “Over the long term,” he said, it would cost between $20,000 and $30,000.
“I think this will be the biggest product of any kind in history,” Musk said.
After the presentation, livestream footage showed people interacting with the Optimus robot at tables and in the crowd. Still, the robots didn’t do anything other than wave. astro robot. There was a drinks table, but I didn’t see Optimus Bot doing much more than holding a cup of ice. However, one bot might pass out small gift bags at another table or play rock-paper-scissors with guests. And there was an enclosed observation deck with lots of robots dancing inside.
When Musk first revealed the project in 2021, Teslabot was not a full-fledged product, but rather a man in a robot suit on stage performing a silly dance routine. But in 2022, the company unveiled a crude prototype that shuffled across the stage.
Musk has promised that Optimus will be a “fundamental change in civilization.” And he has something even bigger to offer investors. He said it offers a potential economic output increase of “double digits” and can be manufactured in “very large quantities, eventually millions of units.” Musk said it would cost about “$20,000” and enable “a future without poverty.”
