“It is a deep sadness to announce the death of our beloved dad, Three Stone of Sly and his family,” his family shared a statement on Monday, June 9th. “After a long battle with COPD and other underlying health issues, Sly passed away peacefully surrounded by his three children, his closest friends and his extended family.”
According to World Health Organizationchronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema is a common lung disease that causes restricted airflow and causes respiratory problems.

As a testament to his lasting creative spirit, Sly recently completed the script for his life story.
The family ended their statement by expressing “a deep gratitude for the pouring of love and prayer” during this difficult time.

After working as a record producer and disc jockey for a radio station in San Francisco, his brother, Sly Freddie Stoneand his sister, Rose stoneformed family stones with sly Cynthia Robinson, Greg Erico, Jerry Martini and Larry Graham.
The group has released several Billboard Hot 100 hits, including “Dance to the Music,” “Daily People,” and “Thank You (Mouse Elf Ajin).” The band broke up in the late ’70s due to Sly’s drug use, but the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and won the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

Sly had suffered from drug addiction for several years, but he revealed that in a few weeks he finally calmed down in 2019 after his drug use landed four times in hospital.
