New York Democratic Rep. Richie Torres called Gov. Kathy Hochul “the new Joe Biden,” and he didn’t mean it in a good way.
Torres was referring to Biden’s refusal to withdraw from the presidential race even after it became clear that he was incompetent.
“Kathy Hochul is the new Joe Biden,” Torres wrote in a post on the X show Friday morning.
“She may be denying the depth of her vulnerability as a Democratic candidate,” Torres continued. “In New York, a Democratic incumbent as unpopular as Donald Trump is in grave danger of being defeated by a Republican in 2026, an outcome not seen in 30 years.”

She may be denying the depth of her vulnerability as a Democratic candidate. The Democratic incumbent, who is less popular than Donald Trump in New York, is in grave danger of losing to the Republicans in 2026 – an outcome not seen in the past 30 years.— Ritchie Torres (@RitchieTorres) November 22, 2024
“If we wait until it’s too late, we could have a Republican president in 2024 and a Republican governor in 2026,” Torres continued.
This post says, “Let’s avoid repeating history and sleepwalking toward impending disaster and defeat. “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
Torres has expressed interest in running against Hochul in the upcoming primary.
Is Congressman Ritchie Torres considering running against New York Governor Kathy Hochul?

“While I have not made a final decision about where my future lies, I am concerned about the governance crisis in New York State and New York City,” Torres told Spectrum News’ Kevin Frye.
Torres lamented that supporting President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 election is a “vote of no confidence in New York state leadership.”
