Marques Brownlee is addressing backlash from another commenter. Brownlee’s fans are outraged by his comments latest videostitled “How is my video gear changing?” This corner of the MKBHD YouTube channel is not an editorially independent review, but a segment fully sponsored by DJI. The video also included a clip of Brownlee driving a sports car well over the speed limit on a suburban road.
Commenters flooded the video with criticism, slamming Brownlee for running the sponsored segment. “This can’t even be considered a sponsored video anymore. It’s literally just a 10-minute ad,” says one comment with more than 12,000 likes.
In response, Brownlee edited the video to remove the speeding clip. it had was originally shown He went over 95 mph in a 35 mph zone and sped past road signs warning drivers to slow down for children. Brownlee pinned his own comments to the video this afternoon, removing “unnecessary driving footage” and saying he was “listening to everyone’s feedback on the sponsored video.” Then he posted Recognition and apology regarding X “This was an absolutely unacceptable and dangerous act,” he said.
Brownlee is expanding beyond traditional YouTube videos. He’s been working on physical products, including a collaboration with Atoms shoes, and has joined the board of wallet maker Ridge.
