Microsoft Outlook users around the world were reporting issues when trying to check their email from the desktop application. In addition to causing the desktop application to crash, the bug used a lot of system resources and appeared to prevent some users from accessing their accounts.
Outlook users reported that the new desktop application repeatedly froze, requiring them to force it to shut down using Windows Task Manager. Many Microsoft services were reportedly affected, and some users complained that they were unable to access Microsoft Teams.
According to DownDetector, a website that tracks online outages and social media posts, there were issues with both Microsoft 365 and Outlook. There have been reports that the Microsoft Store is also facing issues.
The Microsoft 365 Status team reportedly explained the situation and said they are investigating the issue and further updates can be found on the Service Health Dashboard via TM402718. Microsoft also explained that an underlying memory management issue may have caused the outage.
