Manu Bhakar On Tuesday, Sarabjot Singh beat South Korea 16-10 to win the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics.
The Indian pair didn’t start well, losing the first series, but they bounced back quickly to lead 4-2 in the third series and 8-2 in the fifth, but South Korea narrowed the gap to 6-10 in the eighth series. But the Indian pair kept their cool and won with a comfortable margin.
“I’m really proud and grateful,” Bakel said after the historic achievement. “Thank you so much for all the congratulations and love. We can only control what’s in our hands. I discussed this with my father before coming here and we decided to keep fighting until the last blow.”
“It feels great. The match was tough but I’m happy we managed to win. The pressure was huge but the crowd was fantastic,” Sarabjot said.
They finished third in Monday’s qualifying round with a total of 580 points.
This is Sarabjot’s first Olympic medal. Meanwhile, Manu has become the first Indian to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games. She set a record by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Indian to do so.
