Jane’s Addiction have canceled the remainder of their reunion tour. The announcement was made following an on-stage altercation between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro at the band’s Boston show on Friday night (September 13).
“Dear fans, the band has made the difficult decision to take some time off as a group. As a result, we will be cancelling the remainder of our tour,” an announcement was posted on Jane’s Addiction’s Instagram page.
Separate statements posted on the personal pages of Navarro and bandmates Eric Avery and Steven Parkin provided further details.
Due to our singer Perry Farrell’s continuing pattern of behavior and mental health issues, we have concluded that we have no choice but to cancel our current U.S. tour.
Concerns for his own health and safety, and our own, left him no other choice, and we hope he finds the help he needs.
We deeply apologize to fans who have already purchased tickets for the disappointment caused, as we do not know of a solution that would ensure a safe environment onstage and consistently deliver an amazing performance every night.
Our hearts are broken.

Love and Rockets, who opened for the tour, Written“We would have liked to complete the remaining dates of the tour with Jane’s Addiction but unfortunately that is beyond our control.”
In response to the incident, Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, posted on Instagram, “There was clearly tension and animosity between the band members – that was the magic that made the band dynamic. So dynamite was lit. Perry stood in front of Dave’s face and body-checked him.”
Pharrell continued, “Perry’s frustration grew with each night, as he felt the stage volume was so excessively loud that he was drowning out the band. Perry suffered from ringing in his ears and a sore throat every night, but when people in the front row began yelling at Perry that they couldn’t hear him because the band was playing too loud, Perry lost his patience.”
Farrell also noted that Avery “put Perry in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach…Perry was like a crazed animal for the next 30 minutes, never calming down and having an emotional breakdown and crying nonstop. Eric either did not understand what emotional calming meant or took advantage of the situation to land several vile punches on Perry.”
Perry Farrell said in his own statement: “This has been an incredibly difficult weekend. After having time and space to reflect, it is only natural that I would like to apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, as well as our fans, family and friends, for my behavior during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my limitations led to unacceptable behavior, and I take full responsibility for the way I chose to handle this situation.”
