Recording date serves as a cutoff date that determines which shareholders qualify for the corporate benefit. For a shareholder to qualify for a buyback, bonus issues, or stock split, they must hold shares in their Demat account on the day of their record.
To qualify for these corporate profits, investors must purchase the shares at least one day before the previous date, as a settlement occurs the next day. Anyone who purchases shares after the original date is not entitled to these corporate actions.
