Beginning in 1997, it was frequently broadcast on cable television, reaching a wider audience, and by the time Darabont appeared on the BBC in 2004, The Shawshank Redemption had appeared on numerous lists of “greatest” films and had even been shortlisted for the Oscar for Best Picture.Never won an Oscar“”in vote According to the BBC Radio Times, the film is listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) as top 250 moviesThe film currently sits at the top of the list, overtaking The Godfather, as voted for by regular viewers. “And what’s really strange is that it never seems to slow down at all. It just keeps going, which is fantastic. It’s really a wonderful redemption for the film,” Darabont said.
And something closer to this:
• The men who escaped from Alcatraz Island with a spoon
• Shelley Duvall talks about her performance in ‘The Shining’
• The Godfather was a stern warning to America.
In the decade following the film’s release, the internet boomed, and communities of fans began to form online to discuss and analyze the film’s themes and imagery. One popular theory at the time was that The Shawshank Redemption was Religious allegory And Dufresne’s enigmatic character represents Jesus Christ, but the film can be, and was, interpreted in many different ways. Anti-religious Or Jean-Paul Sartre’s Existentialism.
The BBC’s Maconie asked Darabont if he had the story of Jesus “even slightly” in mind when making the film. “Yes, to some extent the parallels occurred to me as a religious allegory, but I didn’t really think about it that deeply,” Darabont replied. “All of a sudden, Tim [Robbins] There’s a line in the movie where he says, “I’m going to use this library to help 12 guys get their high school diplomas,” and all of a sudden the symbolism is, oh, those are the 12 apostles! And I’m like, ‘Oh, I never thought of that, never in a million years,’ and that, to me, is the joy of making an interpretive movie.”
Perhaps the greatest recent endorsement of The Shawshank Redemption’s enduring appeal and the fans who championed it was the 2015 Library of Congress dedicating it to the National Film Registry It represents “a significant cultural, artistic and historical achievement in filmmaking.”
“We are incredibly grateful to all those who selected this film for inclusion in the National Film Registry,” Darabont said, “and most importantly, we’re incredibly grateful to the audiences who have embraced our film and kept it alive over the years.”
