The second place to start watching videos on YouTube is to like the site! Start building the algorithm for The goal is to show what content you want to see, but that means you miss so much.
With the new tool, you can watch YouTube without an algorithm, and it feels like a completely different internet.
This tool works on a basic premise. From 2009 to 2012, iPhones had a “Send to YouTube” button built into the Photos app. Unless you change the filename, the video title will be the default “IMG_XXXX” filename. This tool searches videos with that name from those years and displays them randomly.

Most of these videos were not intended to be shared with the world, as people often used YouTube as a storage service or as a way to share long videos easily. Still, it’s calming to see them. It’s like a less serious internet time capsule. No one is trying to go viral. The videos are not refined, they are not sponsored, nor are they clickbaited. It’s just a video of the moment people thought it was worth saving.
You can avoid the current algorithm by watching YouTube in your private browser, but you can start by viewing popular content and creating a new algorithm from there. This is completely different.
YouTube Anti-Algorithm YouTube may be my favorite
When I started the generator, I was greeted by IMG_0001, a 2009 video. The video showed a close-up of the faces of smiling parents and children waving at camera. The baby is now at least 16 years old.
The next video, IMG_0116.MOV, put me in the passenger seat on a road trip with several young guys in a 15-view 28-second shot. I couldn’t pinpoint the language they were speaking, the music on the radio, or the scenery they were passing by, but the video I had been thinking about my trip years ago made me smile.
I couldn’t stop watching.
I finally found a way to videos such as soccer games, kittens, school concerts, trips to the aquarium, trips to the zoo, more friends on road trips, and getting people at historic landmarks.
My favourite was the man who proudly showed off his huge diorama of soldiers in battle. I can’t name the war, but I saw the French and British flags. There was an army on hundreds of horses, dozens of cannons, wood, smoke and even flying dirt. It was clear he spent a lot of time on this display. I was ranked 7th in the viewers.
The best viewing videos I’ve seen had 102 views.

These videos have default file names as titles, so there is no way to find them in your search. Also, YouTube probably doesn’t recommend it as it spent 10 years with at most a small number of views.
The numbers behind this are interesting and show how big YouTube is. The median video on the site has 41 views, with videos with over 130 views being the top 33% of the site’s content. This means that over half of YouTube is a video with just under 100 views.
After all, there are plenty of YouTube to explore. If you want to try it yourself, I head here.
