This series refuses to stay dead so often that you might wonder if Dexter is the serial killer he appears on screen, or if he’s actually a vampire. First, regular Dexter had eight seasons (2006-2013), with Michael C. Hall playing Gekko as a forensic analyst for the Miami Police Department and a vigilante who kills bad guys. This was followed by the sequel series Dexter: New Blood (2021), and now Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel that follows the young man as he chooses a dual career in forensics and murder. Patrick Gibson (The OA, Shadow and Bone) plays young Dexter in the show, which is set in 1991. Christian Slater plays Harry, the father who teaches him to kill only evil, and Sarah Michelle Gellar plays the new character of Tanya. Martin, Dexter’s boss in forensic training. Hall, who narrates here as Dexter’s inner voice, will return to the big screen in the most famous sequel, Dexter: Resurrection, due out next year.
“Dexter: Original Sin” premieres December 13 on Paramount+ Showtime
