Like a house falling into the evil witch of the Wizard of Oz, Republicans are beginning to level Trump’s agenda.
It was Donald Trump who demanded that his entire legislative agenda be placed in “one big beautiful bill.” The bill is still big, but it’s on the verge of being extremely ugly.
Politico’s Jake Sherman has been posted on X:
Breaking News: Republicans in a major New York home have rejected a $30,000 salt deduction cap and say their leadership is putting Trump’s agenda at risk. Stefanik, Lawler, Lalota, Garbarino
Here is the statement from four House Republicans.
They refuse the offer. The problem for Johnson and Trump’s chairman is that if they make the salt deduction bigger, far-right conservatives won’t vote for the bill.
The fact that four NY Republicans have made this statement is important as it is enough for them to kill the entire bill themselves.
If House Republicans hadn’t heard of the president who couldn’t hold the week of the week, they wouldn’t be in this mess right now, despite him continuing to call the week of the week.
The big thing Democrats and independents need to understand is that once this bill goes down, Republican plans need to cut Medicaid and food aid.
Medicaid cuts are linked to tax cuts. Part of the tax cuts are state and local tax (salt) deductions. When one part of this law goes down, everything goes down.
Trump’s House of Cards could collapse, and if it was the House Republican inscriber who defeats him, that would be appropriate.
