New York Yankees pitcher Devin Williams continued his struggles in the 2025 season during his recent game against the San Diego Padres. In the Monday Night Series opener, the Yankees took a 3-0 lead by the end of their seventh innings.

In the eighth time, Williams took the mound and loaded the base before being replaced by Luke Weaver. The Padres capitalized and overtook the Yankees, eventually securing a 4-3 victory.

According to Twitter/X User @SharpStats17, the Yankees have led the season after five innings and suffered five losses.

Several fans responded to the news, and many criticised Devin Williams for his recent struggle in the innings.

“And that’s all a flaw in one man,” fans said.

“Devin Williams is soft. The lights are too bright and the pinstripes are too heavy. He belongs to a team that no one cares about.” Another fan said.

“Williams is better than the position players pitching right now,” another fan wrote.

Williams finished Monday’s game after allowing one hit, two walks and three run-to-takers. Many other fans continued to express their frustration:

“Looking at Williams’ pitch is a painful experience every time.” Comments read.

“Once again Boone allows this ass to load the base and expect a miracle. #fireboone,” I’ll read another comment.

“Devin Williams is a joke.” Someone wrote it.

The New York Yankees now hold a 19-16 record and a .543 win percentage due to their loss in the series opener against the San Diego Padres.

Yankees Devin Williams opens up about his struggle with the Padres

Devin Williams joined the New York Yankees in December 2024 through trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. In an interview with the Yes Network, Williams recalls his outing against the San Diego Padres, saying:

“Both walks were obviously not something you were trying to do, but I was fighting there at the landing point… it’s hard to control my fastball today.”

“I feel good, I’m confident in the mound. I felt like I was in a good place. It was one of the nights you were fighting the mound, not just against the batters.

In the 2025 season, Devin Williams scored a 10.03 ERA and 0-2 record, giving up 15 runs in 14 appearances.
