More than 100,000 people will take their annual trip to Las Vegas this January, but they (mostly) aren’t doing it to gamble.
Of course, we’re talking about the Consumer Electronics Show, better known as the Consumer Electronics Show. CES. The annual trade show is the largest technology conference of its kind. Every January, the biggest and newest technology companies and startups come together to showcase their latest products and prototypes of potential future technologies.
CES 2025 is no exception. So what should we expect to come out of this CES? Mashable takes a look at some of the latest news, rumors, and announcements to give you a sneak peek at what’s likely to be a major CES event.
new tv
Televisions are always the center of attention at CES, and CES 2025 is likely to continue that momentum. We’re going to see a lot of new smart TVs with AI integration.
But along with announcements about new TV consumer products, it’s likely the real headline-grabbing stuff you won’t find in stores anytime soon.
For example, LG has already promote At CES, the “World Premiere Press Conference” will be held on January 6th, the day before the show floor opens to the public. It is very likely that they will announce new TV products that attendees will be able to experience first-hand the next day. Just last month, LG announced The new stretchable display is the first to expand 50% from a 12-inch display to an 18-inch display. LG might do it at the event.
HDMI2.2
In addition to brighter OLED displays and more affordable Mini-LED options, there could be another big TV announcement at CES. HDMI 2.2.
HDMI Forum announces “New HDMI Specification Release” at CES 2025. It is expected to be HDMI 2.2 which will bring higher resolution and refresh rate to the TV. There have been some minor updates, but the most recent major release was HDMI 2.1 in 2017. TV technology has definitely improved since then, so HDMI 2.2 will likely be a hot topic at CES.
AI wearable
There’s no doubt about that. AI will be the big buzzword at CES this year. And it’s not just on TV. Artificial intelligence products, led by industry leader OpenAI and its hit ChatGPT, will be everywhere at CES and incorporated into every conceivable product category.
mashable light speed
For example, at last year’s CES, Mashable was able to get hands-on experience with multiple smart glasses products from companies such as: TCL and X Real. Conversational AI, AI-powered translation, and chatbots were featured in nearly every smartglass wearable demoed at the 2024 event.
Sure, some of the big AI wearable launches over the past year have been huge failures, but the AI field as a whole has only grown since then, so CES aims to improve on areas where other products have failed. Expect to see more AI-related products.
next generation laptop
Speaking of AI, don’t be surprised if we see new laptop models from basically every PC brand that integrate AI in some way.
In fact, if you want to know what to expect at CES, take a look at what the latest innovation award winners are showcasing. Yes, CES has already issued the 2025 awards. HP OmniBook 14-inch Ultra Flip and Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition Both winners highlight the capabilities of AI. So we’re looking forward to seeing a number of new laptops that emphasize AI capabilities and Microsoft Copilot integration.
As always, expect some next-gen laptops that introduce something new to this space. For example, one of the notable 2025 Innovation Award winners is Lenovo ThinkBook Plus 5th Generation Hybrid. There are many tablets that can be connected to keyboard accessories, and touchscreen laptops are also a growing market. So what’s unique about this? First, the “hybrid” part of this laptop isn’t that it’s a laptop and a tablet. The innovation here is that the computer both Windows and Android devices.
Gaming computers and laptops should also be a hot topic at this year’s CES for a very specific reason. That leads to the next big announcement at CES 2025.
Nvidia RTX 50 series
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said: give a keynote speech Taking place at CES 2025, rumors are circulating that the company plans to use the big event to announce its latest GPUs, specifically the GeForce RTX 5090.
Nvidia’s products are very successful and in high demand thanks to AI. However, don’t forget that gamers are also a reliable consumer base for the company. The Nvidia RTX 50 Series will be the first to feature the company’s new powerful Blackwell architecture.
As of now, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 is expected to be a big announcement as part of the Huang CES keynote on January 6, 2025. So while CES officially starts on January 7th, it looks like the party will start the day before the show floor will be open to the public.
CES interesting for EVs
Electric cars always steal at least some of the headlines at CES. For example, Aptera Motors solar powered EV At CES 2025.
but, conversation The EV buzz at CES will likely be something that won’t be shown off. It’s the incoming Trump administration’s hostile policies regarding electric vehicles. Trump is probably see the end The EV tax credit will hurt many EV companies, especially emerging EV manufacturers like those attending CES. Combine this with a global slowdown in EV sales in general, and the EV news coming out at CES this year may not just be about what new technology is announced, but who won’t be attending this year. do not have.
