Actor Allu Arjun was arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a woman in a gang attack during the premiere of his latest film, and after spending the night in a local jail, he was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court. , was released from prison on Saturday.
Despite the high court’s relief, Arjun had to spend Friday night in jail as authorities did not receive a copy of the bail order till late last night.
“He has been released,” his lawyer Ashok Reddy told reporters at Chanchalguda jail.
Reddy alleged that the prison authorities did not release the actor despite getting a copy of the High Court order.
“You should ask the government and the authorities why they are not releasing the accused. The High Court order is very specific. You should release him immediately the moment you (prison authorities) receive the order. They have not released us despite clear orders, so we have to answer. This is illegal detention. We will take legal action,” Reddy said.
He said Arjun was kept in the jail as a “special category prisoner”.
The Pushpa actor was arrested from his home on Friday morning and dramatic events unfolded throughout the day.
After his arrest, he was charged to a local court and sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody. However, his lawyer moved the HC and secured interim bail.
Arjun was lodged in Chanchalguda Jail just before the High Court passed the order.
