While Rishabh Pant has emerged as the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League, 13-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from Bihar has made history by becoming the youngest player ever to be sold at an IPL auction.
On the second day of the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Rajasthan Royals bought Suryavanshi for Rs 1.1 crore. RR was involved in a bidding war with Delhi Capitals for the player, but Delhi Capitals withdrew after receiving an earlier bid of Rs 100 crore.
Born in Samastipur, he started his cricket journey by training at a local academy and later moved to an advanced training facility in Patna under coach Brajesh Jha. His dedication and performances in regional tournaments, including a double century in the Shyamal Sinha U16 Trophy, earned him recognition within the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA).
Vaibhav has already achieved several milestones, including becoming the youngest player in Bihar’s Ranji Trophy team and consistently scoring runs in national-level youth tournaments. Selection for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and subsequent performance marked him as a future star.
Vaibhav, who made his debut for Bihar at the age of 12, recently scored a 58-ball century against Australia’s U-19 team in a four-day match in Chennai. Vaibhav made his first-class debut in the Bihar Ranji Trophy 2023-24 Elite Group B match against Mumbai in Patna in January this year.
